    o Implantable soft robotic actuators for therapy delivery
    o Intra-oral device for treating obstructive sleep apnea
    o Soft robotic delivery of bioprinted patient-specific left atrial appendage occluders
  • Grants: Marie Curie Individual Fellowship for the University of Glasgow (declined); Purdue Summer Research Grant (twice) and Ross Graduate Fellowship at Purdue University to top PhD students
  • Postdoc at MIT, USA Institute for Medical Engineering and Science, the Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences and Technology, Therapeutic Technology Design and Development Lab (Prof. Ellen T. Roche)
  • PhD in Industrial Engineering on the “Design and Manufacturing of Flexible Optical and Mechanical Metamaterials” from Purdue University, USA
  • BEng in Production Engineering on “Multi-objective optimization of electrochemical discharge machining: a posteriori approach based on bird mating algorithm“ from Jadavpur University in India
  • During Bachelor‘s: Erasmus exchange for 10 months at University of Bremen, Germany

 

Ms Maria Papaefstathiou, PhD student

  • Latest projects:
    o degradation rate of biodegradable materials
    o environmental fate and toxicity of nanomaterials/plastics
  • Grants: Swiss Government Excellence Scholarship 3-year grant recipient for her PhD at ETH Zurich for the production and characterization of a biodegradable, conductive and stretchable smart textile
  • MSc with Honours in Biomedical Engineering, Department of BioEngineering, specializing in Biomechanics from Imperial College London, UK
  • MEng with Honours in Mechanical Engineering from the State University of Cyprus, Cyprus
